Sony Xperia C6902 Z1 16GB Purple
Sony Xperia Z1: Shaky images marr the fun
*************** Expert Review ****************** It’s been a while since Sony has had a truly powerful flagship device of its own. The Xperia Z showed flashes of brilliance but faltered by offering slightly inferior technology to other devices. This isn’t a problem with the Xperia Z1, which incorporates the dust-resistant and waterproof properties of its line to for excellent build quality. The same IP55 and IP58 certification make the device resistant to shattering. So it’s both powerful and tough, and has the looks to boot with Sony’s excellent design and an aluminium shell that feels premium to the touch. Overall, the Xperia Z1 weighs 170 grams and measures 0.335 inches thick, making it one of the sleeker devices out there. It’s got the look but does it have the brains to back it up? Specs The Sony Xperia Z1 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core CPU clocked at 2.2 GHz. It has an Adreno 330 GPU, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage along with a microSD slot for 64 GB more. The performance is the best in its class, perfectly on par with the LG G2. The 5 inch TRILUMINOS Display has a feature called X-Reality and is powered by BRAVIA technology. It also has a 1920x1080 resolution, which looks incredibly sharp. Colour quality and brightness are top notch but more often than not, the viewing angles can’t seem to match up to the best. In terms of optics, there’s a 20.7 megapixel rear camera with an Exmor RS Sony Image Sensor. It also features HDR and full HD video recording along with Sony’s Superior Auto tech that allows the camera to decide the best settings. The lack of OSI makes for some shaky video at times, and photo quality isn’t quite on the level of the HTC One or Nokia Lumia 1020, with some noise visible. Nonetheless, it’s pretty good so long as you don’t shoot a lot in the night. The Sony Xperia Z1’s battery life relies on a 3050 mAh battery, which can be extended using the STAMINA mode. Even without it, you’re looking at a solid 12 to 13 hours of life. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is the default OS, and features Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited and other services like BIGFlix (which you get a 3 month subscription to) and WALKMAN. Pros: - Excellent hardware and performance - 1080p display looks sharp and colourful - Superb, tough design that is slim and easy to handle - Strong battery life Cons: - Viewing angles on display could be better - Video recording is a bit shaky due to lack of optical image stabilization - Slight noise in images Verdict: The Sony Xperia Z1 isn’t the best at certain things, but it’s pretty damn good at all of them. The only issue is price, which is significantly higher than the LG G2. We give the nod to the G2 in terms of the overall package, but the Xperia Z1 is still a great choice, especially if you need something tougher than the rest.

Feature-packed Phone that Keeps you Connected!

The Sony Xperia Z1 White packs in the smartness and powers of the Samsung brand in a single premium smartphone. Weighing just 169grams, this 144.4 x 73.9 x 8.5 mm Sony smartphone boasts a 20.7 megapixel camera and 5.0 inch HD display with X-Reality. On the inside, the Android smartphone packs in a powerful 2.2 GHz Qualcomm MSM8974 Quad Core processor with the multi-functional Google Android 5.1 (Lollipop) OS. Waterproof and dust resistant, the battery of this 2 GB RAM smartphone supports up to 14 hours of talk time and up to 880 hours of standby time.

-Unlike the Xperia Z that was powered by a 2330 mAh battery,  the Sony Xperia Z1 has an upgraded 3000 mAh battery that allows for more battery life.

-The 2.2 GHz quad-core processor, along with its Snapdragon 800 processing chip, makes the Z1 snappy and smooth for heavy functions.

-It supports UMTS HSPA+, GSM GPRS/EDGE, and LTE networks easily.

- A 'premium' look with smoother metal edges, makes the Sony Xperia Z1 a coveted buy for many. Complete with favorable screen improvements, waterproofed headphone jack, notification light adjustments, and a 20.7 megapixel camera with auto focus and pulsed LED flash, the Sony smartphone is available for grabs on most online stores.

-The images clicked by its camera offers rich images with carefully defined edges. With an impressive shutter speed, the camera captures images with minimal blurs and sans any loss of definition.

-The Z1, just like its predecessor, has poor low-light performance.

-Its flappy port covers are a little more robust and slightly upgraded than in other versions but showcase weak spots in the device's structure.

The Sony Xperia Z1 ranks high on the list of value-based Android smartphones because of an impressive combine of top-end hardware, industrial design, excellent camera, personalization capabilities, and multimedia services. This all-rounder Android smartphone is a good buy if its mediocre display is overlooked.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand I9082 provides Quad-band GSM (SIM 1 and SIM 2) as well as 3G (SIM 1) support, has a 5.0" 16M color TFT capacitive touch screen, the Android OS 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS, 1GB of RAM, 8MP autofocus camera, 2MP secondary camera, and 8GB of inbuilt storage along with a microSD slot. It is a good alternative to the Sony Xperia Z1, particularly because of its price.

A worthy choice
While most “miniaturised” versions of premium smartphones tend to provide far less value for money, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is an exception. It feels like it’s been built for this price range while still giving us the Z1 experience. This can be seen in the dust-resistant and waterproof design but also with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU, which is clocked at 2.2 GHz. Internal storage is limited to 16 GB with 2 GB of RAM and a microSD slot for 64 GB more space. Perhaps the only real compromise has been the 4.3 inch, 1280x720 resolution Triluminos display. The picture still feels incredibly sharp though its size may be tough for some users who are more comfortable with 5 inch displays. Viewing angles are once again less than stellar but still manageable. The 20.7 megapixel Exmor RS rear camera is packed with features like Superior Auto, both video and still image HDR, a BIONZ image processor and much more. Low light shots are very well done and the sensor excels in all settings thanks to the Superior Auto mode. The 2300 mAh battery life promises a good 9 hours of heavy usage and can go for more than a day with lighter use. Android 4.3 Jellybean is on board and has features like Sony’s STAMINA mode, Xperia Transfer for files and the usual Google services. The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact’s competition is the Google Nexus 5 and despite some setbacks, it’s a worthy alternative, if not a superior choice.

A decent phone
The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact seems like a budget version of the Xperia Z1 but actually provides a lot more for its price than you’d think. Just like the Z1, the Compact has a quad-core, 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage. A microSD slot has been provided and can store up to 64 GB extra. This means some very good performance overall and it’s at a price to compete with the Google Nexus 5 32 GB, despite having a 4.3 inch, 720p display. The rear camera is a joy to work with though, thanks to the 20.7 optical resolution and Exmor RS sensor. Other features like Superior Auto ease new users into photo taking. Battery life is a strong 8 to 9 hours with heavy usage and can extended using the STAMINA mode. The best part is that Android 4.3 Jellybean hasn’t been tampered with save Sony’s few services and apps here and there. That the Z1 Compact is water and dust-resistant makes it all the more recommended. The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is a great deal, whichever way you look at it. Despite the lack of a full HD screen, it’s arguably better the Nexus 5 in some ways. Pros: - Excellent performance and storage options - Strong battery life - 20.7 megapixel rear camera - Great value for money - Design and “tough” features intact Cons: - Low resolution and small display size - Lacks many of the distinguishing “gimmicks” of competition
