Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 I9200 8GB White
Worth buying if you want a branded phone
4/ 5
Bigger devices that exceeded the 5.5 inch screen size of most phablets originally appeared ridiculous. Even the phablets had been ridiculed for their screen size, but thanks to the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, larger screens have become the norm. This device features a dual core, 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 400 SoC, 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB internal storage. There’s also a microSD slot for up to 64 GB more space, and performance feels perfectly acceptable despite the somewhat less powerful hardware. A 6.3 inch, 1280x720 resolution display offers more screen space than we arguably wanted but ends up looking sharp and altogether appealing. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2G, 3G, NFC and GPS. With the device being hard to handle with one hand, what was the point of including a rear camera, that too with 8 megapixels, LED flash and HDR? We’re not sure but it’s there if you need it and takes decent pictures to boot. The 3200 mAh battery provides about 9 hours of life, and average usage will get you through the day without much problem. Samsung’s TouchWiz UI is lighter here than on most other devices and co-exists well with Android 4.2.2 Jellybean. Verdict The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is a great option for those who can’t drop 35K on a large screen device like the Sony Xperia Z Ultra or Nokia Lumia 1520. It may not push for much power or features, but its larger screen and altogether well-rounded performance help it warrant a look.

If you’ve been seeing a great influx of 6 inch or larger devices in the past several months, then blame Samsung. After the launch of the Galaxy S4, Samsung revealed the Mega series which took phablets to a whole new size dimension. Since then, other companies such as Nokia and Sony have taken the plunge. But how does the Galaxy Mega 6.3 fare? It has a Snapdragon 400 dual core SoC clocked at 1.7 GHz, with 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB internal storage along with a microSD slot for 64 GB more space. The 6.3 inch display make use of a 720p resolution, and occupies as much of the device’s front as possible (which the reduced bezel helps with). Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2G, 3G, NFC and GPS ensure connectivity. It might not make much sense to have an 8 megapixel camera on the back but it has LED flash, HDR and auto focus for those who need it. A 3200 mAh cell offers roughly 8 to 9 hours of life, with screen on time still being relatively good considering the screen size. Samsung didn’t decorate Android 4.2.2 Jellybean with too many features but the requisite Google apps and services make up for it. Verdict Difficult to wield single-handedly but still fairly efficient overall, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is ideal for those on a mid-range budget. It’s gimped compared to the likes of the Xperia Z Ultra, but still worth a look for those who want a decent Samsung phablet.
