HTC Desire 600 White
HTC Desire 600 Review : Average!!
************ Expert Review *********** What good is a nifty new, next generation feature if the general public can’t access it? HTC introduced its new BlinkFeed with the flagship One smartphone. However, with a price point that sits close to that of the iPhone 5, it only makes sense to release a cheaper device to bring BlinkFeed to the masses. Enter the HTC Desire 600, which enters into the mid-range smartphone segment and occupies the same place as the One S did more than a year ago. The device isn’t as premium in its construction as the One, but the reinforced unibody does borrow many of the same aesthetics. The Desire 600 measures 0.36 inches in thickness and weighs roughly 130 grams (since it isn’t made of pure aluminium like its big brother), which makes it fairly portable. Make no mistake: It’s suitably fetching and looks great, handling almost as well. Specs The HTC Desire 600 does differ greatly in the performance it provides. Unlike the powerhouse that is the Qualcomm Snapdragon S600 of the HTC One, the Desire 600 features a Snapdragon S200 chipset. This means a quad-core ARM Cortex A-5 clocked at 1.4 GHz and an Adreno 203 GPU (similar to what Karbonn’s Titanium S5 is touting). Internal storage is 8 GB and a microSD slot for 64 GB more, with 1 GB of RAM. Performance is good, though definitely inferior to the likes of the Google Nexus 4’s Snapdragon S4 Pro, as long as you ease up on the graphic intensive applications and multi-tasking. The 4.5 inch, Super LCD2 display features a 960x540 resolution. This means decent colour quality and viewing angles, but keep in mind that it is inferior to the Super LCD3 tech of the One and even the Butterfly. The resolution could be higher, considering that other devices in this range like the Nexus 4 and Sony Xperia ZR feature HD resolutions. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth and GPS. The rear camera sensor is 8 megapixels and features auto focus and a BSI sensor. Picture quality is sufficiently decent but HTC Zoe is absent. The HTC Desire 600 battery life relies on an 1860 mAh cell, which means roughly 8-9 hours of life. This can be extended with lesser usage, as usual. Android 4.2 Jellybean is coated in Sense 5, whose main claim to fame is BlinkFeed. This tile-based information interface is nifty at first, but there’s still no option to personalize feeds. HTC is still in the midst of correcting this, but an option to switch if off would’ve been appreciated. Pros: - Good overall performance - Strong Super LCD2 display - Includes HTC’s BlinkFeed - Excellent design Cons: - Not as powerful as competing handsets from Google and Sony - Still can’t customize feeds in BlinkFeed Verdict: The HTC Desire 600 is a strong showcase of what the company’s newest features can do, wrapped up in an affordable and well-rounded product. However, in terms of overall performance and value for money, the Nexus 4 and Xperia ZR have it beat.
