HTC Desire 500 Glossy Black

Very disappointed
After reinventing its One line to feature one singular flagship device, HTC was left without many budget options to market its new BlinkFeed feature. The answer then seems to be the HTC Desire line, which now sports a similar look to the One. It features a Snapdragon 200 quad core CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz with 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB internal storage. This comes with a microSD slot for 64 GB more, and on its own, provides some decent performance. BlinkFeed in question is as it’s always been – a content consumption platform like Flipboard where you can choose the topics you want and receive the latest news on the same. It lacks a fair bit of customization, including an option to disable it (which is present in Sense 5.5) but it’s harmless. The 4.3 inch 800x480 resolution display is a let-down, especially considering that there are full HD displays available for cheaper on budget devices. At least the 8 megapixel camera, which features an HTC Image Chip and BSI sensor, is decent though it by means offers the same low light performance as the One. It features HD video recording and is capable of fast photography though. Battery life is a stickler, with its 1800 mAh providing half days’ worth of life but heavier usage reduces that significantly. Verdict: HTC may have overestimated the appeal of BlinkFeed and those seeking the HTC Desire 500 for it. It’s an average smartphone overall, and better options exist by the bundle.
