HP Slate 6 Voice Tab Black
Try Nexus 7 instead
4/ 5
The HP Slate 6 looks to bridge the strange gap that exists between tablets and phablets, measuring 6 inches with its screen size. However, even with its sleek measurements, it’s still ultimately underwhelming compared to the Google Nexus 7 (2nd gen). The Slate 6 features a Marvell PXA1088 chipset which contains a quad-core Cortex A7 CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz. In terms of performance, it isn’t much better than, say, the Motorola Moto G and its Snapdragon 400 chipset. It also only has 1 GB of RAM, along with 16 GB internal storage and a microSD slot for up to 32 GB space. In terms of performance, it navigates Android 4.2.2 Jellybean just fine but considering that the interface is riddled with bloatware, this isn’t exactly the most ideal stock version. The 6 inch IPS display has a 720p display which looks decent, albeit a little pixelated and less sharp due to the low pixel density. It’s still better than the 5 megapixel rear camera, which only takes halfway decent shots in the day time and fails at night even with flash support. A 3000 mAh Li-Ion polymer battery delivers around 6 to 7 hours of continuous usage, but this decreases depending on how resource-hungry your apps are (for instance, games). The HP Slate 6 is that it doesn’t offer enough at its price to justify a purchase. The Nexus 7 (2nd gen) features a Snapdragon S4 Pro and full HD display for the same price – go for that instead.

Not a stellar
4/ 5
As a 3G enabled tablet looking to compete with the best that both Dell and Google have to offer, the HP Slate 6 Voice Tab makes one sacrifice too many to really be called competition. It features a 1.2 GHz, quad core Cortex A7 with 1 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage (along with a microSD slot for 32 GB more). Right away, it comes off as underwhelming next to Acer’s Iconia W4, which has double the RAM and far more storage with better performance. While the Android experience is decent enough, it doesn’t feel as smooth or fluid as it should. It doesn’t help that Google’s 2nd gen Nexus 7 runs far better with its Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU. A 6 inch, 1280x720 resolution IPS display is included and looks fine. It won’t blow you away but the viewing angles and colour quality come together well. The rear camera isn’t worth much due to a 5 megapixel resolution and shoddy flash. Battery life averages about 6 hours with heavy usage, and the 3000 mAh cell just doesn’t deliver the longest times even with low use. Whatever you opt for – tablet, phablet, or smartphone – there are a ton of options that are superior to the HP Slate 6 Voice Tab. Give it a miss and opt for the Acer Iconia W4 or Nexus 7 instead. Pros: - 720p display looks decent enough - Battery life isn’t the worst Cons: - Useless rear camera - Underwhelming performance - Questionable value for money
