HP 10 Tablet Black

HP’s 10 Tablet sounds rather simple and considering that it’s a low-cost version of the Omni 10 only with Android instead of Windows, it sounds interesting. Problems, as always, arise very quickly when you take a look inside. The HP 10 Tablet features a dual core Cortex A9 CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz with 1 GB DDR3 RAM and 8 GB internal storage (useable storage being slightly less). A microSD slot adds 32 GB of extra space and right away, the gulf in performance between the HP 10 and Google Nexus 7 (second gen) is exposed. For about the same price, you get 16 GB of space and a Snapdragon S4 Pro with Google’s device. You also get a full HD display, while the HP 10 only offers a 10 inch screen with a 1280x800 resolution. A 2 megapixel rear camera is bundled but fixed focus makes it less than useful in most circumstances. The 4600 mAh Li-Polymer battery also performs rather poorly, delivering about 4 to 5 hours of life with heavy usage. Android 4.1 Jellybean isn’t even the latest version of the interface but at least it’s a stock launcher. It’s extremely difficult to recommend the HP 10 Tablet, especially in light of the Nexus 7 (second gen). Micromax is regularly slammed for their tablet configurations but they’re not priced anywhere as high as this. Avoid the HP 10 Tablet; if you’re seeking a far cheaper but better tablet with similar specs, opt for the Asus Fonepad 7.

Low value for money
When you look at budget tablets, a company like HP isn't the first to come to mind. The HP 10 Tablet seems decent - especially since the Omni 10 is a fairly good device - but it includes a 1.2 GHz, Cortex A9 dual core CPU, 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB internal space. There's a microSD slot which adds up to 32 GB more. Compare this to the original Google Nexus 7 and its Tegra 3 SoC which performs far better while retailing for cheaper. The 10 inch display has a 1280x800 resolution and while it's decent, it doesn't offer a display as good as the second gen. Nexus 7's display. You might be noticing a pattern here. The rest of the device is fairly linear - a 2 megapixel rear sensor which performs horribly, a 4600 mAh capacity battery which only offers about 4 or so hours of life and Android 4.1 Jellybean. At least it has 3G capability included. The HP 10 Tablet is inferior to the Google Nexus 7 and even the Asus Fonepad 7 in every way. If you're looking for a decent budget tablet, much less a good enough device in this range, there are other better options available. Pros: - 3G capability - Android 4.1 Jellybean is still reliable Cons: - Low internal storage and antiquated performance - Pathetic rear camera sensor - Below average battery life - 10 inch display's resolution feels inferior - Value for money is awful compared to other tablets
