Gionee GPad-G3 White
Low storage is a big issue
4/ 5
For once, Gionee is offering a device outside of its comfort zone with the Gpad G3. Rather than having a device that can compete with big name brand offerings, the Gpad G3 attempts to cater to a cheaper clique by bundling a quad core CPU and 5.5 inch display at a cheap price. The CPU runs at 1.2 GHz with 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB internal storage, though usable storage ends up being lower. Despite its quad-core pretensions, the device actually runs a bit slow and you may notice a few glitches. The 5.5 inch display is similarly poor due to the 854x480 resolution. Less pixels across less inches means a genuinely less sharp image and it sadly shows. IPS tech could have been employed to reduce glare but it’s missing. The rear camera has an optical resolution of 5 megapixels, with an LED flash and auto focus to go with premium features like Panorama. It’s not handled too well though and the device’s lack of power hinders the optics greatly. At least the 2250 mAh battery provides 5.5 to 6 hours of life and can last through the day without much trouble. For all of its success, Gionee’s Gpad G3 just doesn’t work. The decent battery life and price are over-run by poor performance and needlessly large display. Pros: - Battery life is better than expected - 5.5 inch display Cons: - Poor optics - Hardware feels dated; too little RAM - Low resolution screen - Low usable storage

4/ 5
Gionee has been on a very strong roll in the past few months, especially with its premium offerings. How does it fare in the budget department, especially with the Gpad G3? The answer is: in a clichéd manner. It’s hopped on the trend of bundling quad core SoCs for less than 10K devices, but nonetheless, Gionee does try to mix it up. The quad core CPU is clocked at 1.2 GHz and has 512 MB of RAM with 4 GB of internal storage. Usable storage isn’t very high and that creates a problem for deciding which apps you want to keep. The display is 5.5 inches but has an 854x480 resolution which looks pretty bad overall. Pixel density is low, which reduces overall image sharpness, and even viewing angles aren’t very good. The 5 megapixel rear camera boasts “high speed” continuous shooting and a Panorama mode but both of these facets are handicapped by the limited power. The overall camera performance isn’t very good in any way but these pictures will be decent enough for your various social feeds. Battery life is good, thanks to a 2250 mAh cell, and it provides roughly 6 hours or so of heavy usage. Navigating the interface feels decent but the usual slowdown and stuttering pops up due to the limited RAM. The Gionee Gpad G3 isn’t a good budget smartphone, and tries to be a budget phablet for no good reason. Opt for the Micromax Canvas MAd A94 or Nokia Lumia 525 instead.
