Gionee ELIFE E3 Black
Gionee Elife E3 Review : Doesn't stand out at all!
************* Expert Review ************* Gionee made a strong impact with Dream D1 many months ago which featured a very strong collection of specifications including a 720p AMOLED display covered in Gorilla Glass, fetching design and quad-core CPU. Now that it’s been around the block a bit, it has begun churning out smartphones on a regular basis – which includes the Gionee Elife E3. There’s not a lot that sets this device apart from its predecessors but it’s the little things that help it excel. The design this time around is significantly more oval shaped with curved corners and a polycarbonate shell that gives off a slightly rubberised feel. Overall, it’s strong and reliable, bundled along with a screen protector and rear protection case that gives an added bit of security. It also measures only 0.31 inches thick and weighs a good 126 grams, making it both one of the sleeker and more lightweight devices in the market. Specs In terms of power, the Gionee Elife E3 doesn’t slouch when compared to its predecessors. It features a quad-core Cortex A7 processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM. The graphics processor used here is the PowerVR SGX544. The internal storage is 16 GB with a microSD slot for 32 GB more, providing a significantly higher amount of space than most other devices. Performance is perfectly in line with the competition today and manages to provide a small jump over the Dream D1. The 4.7 inch AMOLED display looks sharp with its 1280x720 resolution providing excellent viewing angles and colour quality. Connectivity options include 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The rear camera features a rear 8 megapixel sensor with LED flash and touch focus. It takes fairly good pictures, though a healthy amount of noise on close-ups makes it a less than ideal choice for macro photography. The Gionee Elife E3 battery life relies on an 1800 mAh cell that sadly doesn’t deliver very good numbers, averaging about 6 hours with moderately heavy usage. Some restraint does deliver a slightly better 8 hours, but it’s nothing compared to what devices like the Wicked Leak Wammy Passion Z and Panasonic P51 are capable of. Android 4.2 Jellybean is also slightly hindered since Gionee decided to include its own custom skin for the UI. It’s not bad, but it is fairly limited and unattractive. Problems with previous devices that prevented you from using your own custom launcher don’t seem to be present this time around. Pros: - Above average performance with good amount of internal storage - Good AMOLED 720p display - Surprisingly good 8 megapixel camera - Strong build quality that is easy to handle Cons: - Custom UI is ugly and doesn’t allow much freedom - Underwhelming battery life - Doesn’t stand out too much from other devices. Verdict: The Gionee Elife E3 is an extremely good all-round budget device, but again there are a few niggles here and there. Granted, most budget smartphones are beginning to look the same these days, but they still offer more freedom with their interfaces.
