Football is the most popular sports on this planet! English Premier League’s 25th season has begun and will continue till Feb 2017. The 2016-17 season is nicely poised with no clear favourites to point out. The three teams that have been promoted from the 2015-16 Football League Championship are Burnley, Middlebrough and Hull City and will be replacing Newcastle United, Norwich City and Aston Villa.
The Indian football fans are as crazy as any other you can find in the UK or any other part of the world. These fans go mad supporting their teams throughout the season. The only way most of us can support our teams is to sit in front of a TV and enjoy the glorious goals. One cannot afford to buy tickets for every match to have a real feel, but one can certainly buy a HD LED TV to catch all the action from the Premier League in high definition!
The Top Contenders
There are at least six to seven teams that can grab the top spot and, if there’s one thing that Leicester City’s dream-run taught us last year, it’s that you cannot rule out anyone.
Manchester City: For the first time in the history of Manchester, force is strong with the blue part of the city and Pep Guardiola has emerged as their Jedi Knight. With the signings of John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane, Claudio Bravo and Nolito, the squad looks much better than before and the Brazilian youngster Gabriel Jesus who’ll be joining them in January will add more quality to the team.
Manchester United: The Red Devils had the most impressive transfer season by far that has put them in the hot seat for claiming their first league title in four years. Swedish God Zlatan Imbrahimovic got his season running by scoring goals in each of his first two games. Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly have been impressive and Henrikh Mkhitaryan was brilliant in the limited opportunities he got. The best signing for them has to be of the special one ‘Jose Mourinho’ who has been very effective on the sidelines.
Arsenal: Their transfer season was no different than in the last few years. Failing to sign his top targets, Arsene Wenger had to once again settle for backup options but the squad looks very balanced and has depth. If players like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are able to stay fit and carry their form, Arsenal might just win the trophy that has eluded them for the last decade.
Tottenham Hotspur: Their last season was a story of ‘so close yet so far’ where they remained in the hunt for the title throughout the season, only to slip away at the last moment and finished at #3. The signings of Victor Wanyama, N’Koudou and Moussa Sissoko aren’t the ones that gives you a lot of confidence but Mauricio Pochettino’s strategical brilliance earns them a spot in top four.
Chelsea: Coming off a bad season, the 2014-15 league champions will be looking to bounce back this season. With star signings like N’Golo Kanté, Michy Batshuayi, and David Luiz, Chelsea is looking to go all out in the 2016-17 season.
